  About our school...

Take the virtual tour of Headcorn School

We currently have around two hundred pupils in seven classes, and educate children from Reception, up to Year Six. We have fully qualified and highly dedicated teachers to ensure that our children are working to the extent of their abilities.

Our school has a very distinct ethos. At Headcorn Primary we believe that we are educating children for the life ahead of them, and that our primary goal is to develop fully rounded, happy and confident children. To do that, we must help them to succeed, at their own ability level, in every way possible.

Consequently, we place emphasis on the importance of delivering a fully rounded curriculum and do all that we can to support children in the areas in which they are found to be able. We greatly value art, music and PE, and the school offers an excellent range of club, more of which are free and run by members of staff.  For more details please see the 'Extra-curricular activities' page.

We try to encourage independence within our children at every opportunity and also offer them the opportunity to play an active role within their classes and the school in general, from having responsibility for simple tasks, to serving on the school council.

We monitor children's progress closely, and have strategies to ensure that they achieve all that they can in English, Maths and all subject areas. LSAs work with the more able, as well as those requiring extra support, to ensure that they can all succeed at a level appropriate for them.

We are lucky at Headcorn Primary to have such extensive facilities. We have two separate playgrounds, one for the Infants and one for Juniors, a very large playing field, heated outdoor swimming pool, library, large hall and a dedicated computer suite. The classes are well resourced and we use technology widely, to enhance the delivery of the curriculum.

Parents play an important part in the life of the school. They help during lessons, listening to children read for example. Other parents with particular expertise help to run art and sports clubs. We have a thriving Parent Teacher, Friend Association, who raise in the region of £10,000 a year for the school. However, the PTFA isn't just a fund raising body. The Headteacher attends every meeting, and holds a forum in which the running of the school is discussed. Thus, parents are able to contribute to the development of the school, helping to improve it in every way.

We are constantly developing the way we share information with parents and allow them to play an active part in the education of their child. For example, written reports are now produced in February, not June.  The reports contains advice to support each child's development during the remainder of the year, as well as reporting on their progress so far. Parents also receive regular feedback, on how their child is progressing in English and Maths, with small step targets so that the child can be helped at home.

Because of the committment of our staff, governors, parents and pupils, Headcorn Primary is a good school. With our determination and vision, it will continue to grow and improve into an even better school.

The school was last inspected in March 2010, and received a positive report.

However, if you want a better understanding of our school, come and see us at work.  We would be happy to show you around and answer any questions you might have. If you would like to talk to us, please contact our School Administrator, Mrs Jackie Scrace, or the Headteacher.
